Lease of the Swan Inn in Stevenage 1706

 

This indenture made the six and twentieth day of March Anno Dom 1706 and in the fifth Year of ye Reign of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the Grace of God of England, Scottland and Ffrance and Ireland Queen defender of the faith & Between George Nodes of Sheephall Berry in ye County of Hertford Esq. of this one part and Richard Nodes citizen and Ironmonger of London on the other part witnesseth that the said George Nodes for and in consideration of ye sum of four shillings of lawfull money of England to him in hand paid by ye said Richard Nodes att and before the onsealing and delivery those persons the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and for diverse other good cause and considerations the said George Nodes hereunto moving?

Hath bargained sold ----- and confirmed by those present does bargain sell ----- and confirmed unto ye said Richard Nodes All that Messuage Tenement or Inns with the Appurtances in Stevenage in ye said County of Hertford commonly called or known by ye Name or Sign of ye Swan And all those two Barnes in Stevenage aforesaid one is called Munsey Barns and the other is called Willsend Barns and all those severall close and parcels of Arable Land and Pasture with their appurtances situate lying and being in ye Parish ffielde and -------- of Stevenage aforesaid containing together by estimation one and twenty acres of pasture and thirty acres and a half of Arable land

More or by All with the said promised now and or ------ in ye family or occupation  James Green his under Tenant or under Tenants assigned or assigns  and were lately purchased of Richard Nodes by the said George Nodes coy author(?) with all and singular Building Barnes Stables Yard and Orchards garden and Barkside ways passages Lights  ------ profitte commodity and appurtances to the said Messuage and Tenement or Inns belonging in any way(?) appertaining or there with all --------  -------- occupied or enjoyed or ------- reputed taken or known of part parcel or member there of the Reversion and Reversion Remainder and Remainder Yearly & other ---------  ---------- and proffitte thereof to have and to hold the said Mossagne Tenant or time and all and singular the promised aforesaid with their Appurtances unto ye said Richard Nodes hio Est. Admst. and assigns from ye day ------  -------- the day of the date of those present for and during the -----? Of one Whole Year from ----- ---- ---- and fully to be --- --- and as yielding and paying therefore of one pepper corne on ye first(?) day of the Annunciation of ye --- Vrgin Mary not ensueing(?) the date of those possessions only if ye same shall be lawfully demanded ---? & purpose only by ---- and virtue of those persons and ye statutes made for transferring – possession of the said Richard Nodes may be in actual possession(?) all and singular the promised with their appurtances(?)  and thereby be infilled(?) to ----- and take a Grant of Reversion and Inheritant thereof and to him and his heirs in witness whereof the said partys to the person to have inf------(?) their hands and sealed the day and year first above written.
